BYDS Fall 2020 Message

2020 has brought unexpected changes in our personal and professional lives. The uncertainty we are enduring together can be challenging, and we are doing everything we can to respond to the ever-changing updates. One assurance I can provide you now is that we are continuing to work diligently toward re-opening our campus, assuming it is safe and permissible for us to begin the 2020-2021 school year in person.

Earlier this summer, I charged our Senior Administrators and their extended teams with evaluating the steps necessary to re-open our campus this fall. I asked them to consider all aspects of school life. As I always say, the faculty and staff are the heartbeat of BYDS, and I am constantly impressed by their thoughtful insight and ideas. As we look ahead to the fall, we are eager to welcome all our families back and we look forward to orienting our newest community members, in whatever way circumstances will allow. We have missed the students terribly and want nothing more than to be together in our building, learning, sharing, and enjoying one another’s company as a community. In anticipation of our Rams @ Home plan, our faculty is participating in additional training to hone their online teaching skills. Doing so further solidifies BYDS’ position in the independent school world as a leader in distance learning.

BYDS has worked diligently to develop a re-entry strategy that allows for flexibility and transparency while prioritizing the health and safety of our community. We are currently preparing the physical campus with the modifications necessary to support a safe return in the fall. The uncertainty of these times does not change the mission of Beth Yeshurun Day School. We will continue to foster confidence, leadership, a love of learning, and a sense of responsibility in students by honoring individual strengths in an environment dedicated to academic excellence, Jewish teachings, and the continuity of Jewish values. BYDS continues to seek the most outstanding professional development for our faculty and staff in this changing educational climate so they can continue providing competitive academic lessons and maintain a social/emotional connection with our students.

Our decisions will be informed by how the virus progresses. As the trajectory for the global COVID-19 pandemic evolves, so will our Plan. Details and updated information will be shared as soon as possible with our community. Moving forward, our leadership team will continue analyzing options to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of an exceptional BYDS experience.
