Alphabet Celebration with Kindergarten

Ms. Louden and Ms. Golding’s Kindergarten phonics curriculum began with an exploration of the alphabet through engaging and hands-on activities. Teachers guided Kindergarten students in activities and programs to learn about and understand the letters and their corresponding sounds.

Students practiced how to study and talk about the letters on the alphabet chart, just like scientists study special objects. Students recognized the different features of letters, including upper- and lowercase, and the similarities and differences between them. They have also been discussing keyword pictures and letter sounds. These keyword pictures help the students remember the correct initial sound that goes with the letter. Our “word scientists” studied the alphabet chart closely, compared different types of charts, engaged in alphabet aerobics, went on an alphabet hunt, and invented new pictures for their charts.

In celebration of our Kindergarten word scientists, we invited our children and a special guest (their favorite stuffed animal) to bring to school for a Teddy Bear Picnic! Students enjoyed teaching their special friend about the alphabet chart, reading them stories, and enjoying a picnic lunch in our sukkah!
