Faculty Spotlight Week 4

Limor Carasso, 2nd – 5th Grade Hebrew Teacher

How old were you when you decided to become a teacher?

I never thought that I will end up being a teacher. I do not recall when it all started. I always liked to guide and help children in need.

What are you most proud of this year in regard to your work at BYDS?

I am proud of my new students. They trusted me to lead them without fear, to learn Hebrew. Some of my students never had Hebrew, this is their first year. After working with them in the past semester, I am happy to write that they are speaking, writing, and engaging actively with every Project-Based Learning (PBL) that has been part of their class curriculum. I am also proud to work with the Head of the School and her team because she had to make tough choices and has been supportive throughout this year. That made me and my colleagues feel more secure and safe.

What superhero talent would you most like to have?

I am not a hero and I do not want to be a superhero, thus I do not think I would like to acquire any superhero talent. I just want to learn how to be a better person each day. Better wife, mom and friend.

What are you “free” reading right now?

I love reading. As part of my dissertation I read more than 200 academic articles and books and I also found the time to read some fiction books such as “Missing you” by Halen Coben and I started “Behind Her Eyes” by Sarah Pinborough.

Michelle Hadar, THREEs Lead Teacher

Did anything or anyone inspire you to become a teacher?

Both my parents inspired me to become a teacher: My dad (z’l) was a Rabbi and one thing he loved most was teaching, whether for Bar Mitzvah classes or adult learning classes. I also remember reading books when I was younger and whenever I asked my mom what a word meant, she always stopped what she was doing and gave me the definition as well as an example in a sentence.

Favorite character from children’s literature?

I’d have to say that the characters from The Wizard of Oz are my favorite! We all need courage, a heart, and a brain to do the right things in life.

What superpower would you most like to have?

My superpower??? I would love to be a genie and grant all who ask three wishes!

What is your favorite treat?

My favorite treat is mint chocolate chip ice cream.

Melanee Weiser, PE Teacher / Rams Basketball Coach

How long have you taught at BYDS?

At the end of this school year I will have worked 19 years at BYDS

What is your favorite food?

My favorite food is any type of Asian cuisine and my favorite food to eat is sushi.

What are your hobbies/interests (other than making BYDS great)?

In my spare time I enjoy working out at the Jewish Community Center, playing pickle ball and tennis, cooking healthy meals, and spending time with my family.

What is your most memorable moment at BYDS so far?

My most memorable moment at BYDS was coaching the Rams Basketball Team to an undefeated season in 2018-2019.
