BYDS Grandfriends Day 2019

What a GRAND Grandfriends’ Day Celebration!

The week leading up to Thanksgiving was a busy one starting with Kindness Week, Scholastic Book Fair, and culminating with a Grandfriends’ Day on Friday, November 22.

Our Early Childhood came together for a L’Dor V’Dor Sing-along with our music teacher, Julie Sacks. Julie brought so much fun and excitement with songs about family, love, and Thanksgiving to the large group that filled the room to capacity! The young children then brought their Grandfriends to their classrooms to celebrate Shabbat and create arts and crafts activities together.

The Elementary School celebrated with a L’Dor V’Dor Kabbalat Shabbat in the sanctuary. Cantor Finkelstein led us in song and prayer and our fifth-grade students wrote special stories about being thankful and shared them in English, Spanish, and Hebrew. What a treat to see siblings and families and friends sitting together! Rabbi Segal, who serves as both our Senior Rabbi Emeritus and grandfriend shared some beautiful words of wisdom and lead our entire audience in one of our favorite songs, “Hallelu”!

A very special TODAH RABAH, THANKS, goes out to the PTO Grandfriends’ Day Committee for their creativity, dedication, commitment, and hours of volunteer time they put into this very special day for the school: Amy Judkowitz, Jessie Cutler, Julie Davis, Adi Lutfak, and Amanda Wolf. Thanks, also goes to Andrea Kahle, PTO VP who worked closely with this committee. Another special thanks to Danielle Rolfes for creating and making the beautiful GFD tree. Danielle painstakingly cut out each and every leaf to create this wonderful piece of art!

We would especially like to thank all the Grandfriends who came out on that soggy Friday morning to spend time with their own very special friends.
