BYDS 2020-2021

The Board of Trustees approved a new tuition structure allowing BYDS to be the first Jewish school in Houston to offer a rich Jewish life and private school education at new affordable rates. Although our rates have decreased, our program and curriculum are continuously being enhanced.

Exciting things are happening at Beth Yeshurun Day School and we want your family to continue its educational journey with us.

National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS)
This past year we inducted our inaugural BYDS NEHS members. They were selected based on their demonstration of the NEHS pillars: Scholarship, Responsibility, Service, and Leadership. These pillars are parallel with the mission and vision of our school and emphasize connecting each component through a Jewish lens.

Personalized Learning Plans
All students Kindergarten through 5th grade will benefit from a unique approach to facilitating each of their individual learning needs. Our Principals and Student Achievement Team are working on building this initiative into our student-centered curriculum for 2020-2021.

Digital Portfolios
BYDS will use this new and innovative way to follow your child’s educational journey through to 5th grade graduation. Your student’s portfolio will include memorable pictures, academic history, and important milestone updates.

J-STEAM
Next year we are infusing our STEAM curriculum with Jewish Life. Students will work collaboratively to create meaningful, engaging experiences with real-world applications.

BY DiscoveryScape
According to research, school performance increases when children learn outdoors. Our students have the advantage of being at the only school in Houston with an expansive outdoor education space that was designed to serve ages from 15 months through 5th grade. They have spent this past year enjoying classroom time…outside. Our children will understand problem-solving, self-exploration, decision making, number relationships, structures, complex vocabulary, healthy living, cause and effect, creativity, imaginative thinking from playing and learning outside.

Academic Leadership
It is with great pleasure that I welcome Cortney Hebert (pronounced A-Bear) to our school in July 2020. She joins our team as our Principal of Elementary School. Her experience in 21st-century learning, curriculum design and implementation, and faculty professional development will steer our school forward and elevate our academic excellence.

Faculty Members
Our faculty is a passionate, diverse group of educators who bring a breadth of experience whether they have been here for one year or 35 years. As we move toward the end of the year, our community will celebrate the following teachers for their dedicated service: Rimma Cherches, Nancy Sadick, and Haley Finkelman. Join us in wishing our departing faculty good luck for the future.

2020-2021 School Calendar
We have listened to the needs of our community and have worked diligently to observe the Jewish holiday calendar while respecting the many other obligations of our families. Click here to download the 2020-2021 one-page calendar.

Dress Code 2020-2021
We have updated our dress code to be more reasonable and inclusive. The BYDS dress code is meant to create a safe, positive learning environment. Click here to review our updated dress code for the 2020-2021 school year.

School Entrance Health Form
This is the only entrance form you must submit for re-enrollment. We are required to have updated Student Health Forms and Immunization Records on file in the clinic for each student.

Thank you for your trust and support, and we look forward to an innovative and exciting 2020-2021 school year.
