A Grand Celebration

BYDS loves our Grandfriends so much that we canceled this year’s in-person Grandfriends’ Day. We wish we could have hosted our Grandfriends on our campus for treats, presentations, and activities. Instead, we threw “A Grand Celebration” in their honor for the entire month of November.

The first week was filled with smiles, stories, memories, and giggles as we discussed all the ways our Grandfriends “Make Life Grand”. We shared those ideas through a digital slideshow with pictures and stories. Week two, our students sent a little love with personalized “Grand-A-Grams”. Early Childhood and 2nd – 5th Graders mailed a special note in English and a “חִבּוּק” (“hug” in Hebrew). Students in Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade performed and recorded special songs and sent them via email. The children loved putting these fun projects together, thinking about what their Grandfriend might say when they see it.

During the third week, we, “Thanked A Grand!” It is an honor to see the expressions of respect, integrity, and love pour out from our students’ hearts. Grandfriends truly impact our children’s lives. Their fierce loyalty and unwavering support bring so much happiness to our students. Our parents shared their appreciation through social media posting pictures: “Grandfriends are a delightful blend of laughter, caring deeds, wonderful stories, and love.” #ThanksAGrand for everything you do for us.

Congregation Beth Yeshurun’s Friday Shabbat Renewal Service on November 20th, “A Grand Shabbat”, featured a special thank you from Rabbi Brian Strauss.

The final week of November is a time of gratitude. We are encouraging our entire community to “Do Something Grand” (a mitzvah) in honor of our Grandfriends.

Thank you to all our Grandfriends for a wonderful month and for all that you do for your Grandstudents. We are grateful for you and we hope everyone takes a moment to recognize all for which you are thankful.
