ANNUAL FUNDCamp

End of Year Review by Dan Ahlstrom

As we prepare for lazy summer days, I wanted to express my appreciation for all that our school has accomplished this year. We started out the year celebrating our strengths with BYDS Strong Day! Our students shined on the field and section 106 beamed with pride. Throughout the year BYDS has upheld our reputation for academic excellence with impressive writing assignments, STEAM projects, performances. We have emphasized honoring our students’ individual strengths by the introduction of MAP Assessments. Our renovated STEAM and computer labs have been a significant addition to our curriculum and allowed for more cross-curricular opportunities.

Another hallmark of our school is fostering confidence and leadership in our students. On the basketball court our team had no equal! The kids played well, exhibited sportsmanship and Jewish values, and had a great time representing BYDS. Go RAMS!! The BYDS Buddy program enjoyed monthly get-togethers and made for some adorable captured moments. Our older buddies love spending time with their younger friends leading them in creating art projects, participating in holiday activities, or sharing a story.

We introduced a new web site, #BYDSLife blog, and social media platform. Through these tandem resources we were able to address parent questions in a more efficient and timely way, communicate our school successes, and share information quickly and reliably. Additionally, our new lunch program has been overwhelmingly acknowledged as a success. Students, faculty, and staff enjoyed multiple healthy options for lunch everyday.

Jewish teaching and continuity of Jewish values was enhanced through the addition of our monthly Torah service, cross-curricular programs, community morning exercises, holiday celebrations, and daily integration into our curriculum. We also received a lot of praise from the community regarding the Simchat Torah service, Pesach observances at school, choir performance during the Congregation Beth Yeshurun’s Shabbat, and other community events.

We are raising the bar at Beth Yeshurun Day School. I look forward to hearing from you and will continue to update you as we make this the best environment for all of our families. Have a great summer!
